BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, HER, 12 YEARS A SLAVE TOP ICS AWARD NOMINEES
Honoring films released in the USA in 2013.
In a year replete with quality cinema, four different films led the nomination count for the ICS Awards, each with seven nods: Abdellatif Kechiche’s Palme d’Or winner Blue is the Warmest Color, the vibrantly immersive story of two young women falling in and out of love; the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, which recounts the trials of a penniless musician guided through his folk song of a life by doppelganger cats; Her, Spike Jonze’s futuristic love letter to technology and human connection; and Steve McQueen’s devastating memoir of brutal servitude, 12 Years a Slave.
Our acting nominees ran the gamut from presumed Oscar frontrunners Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) to some more eclectic choices, such as Melvil Poupaud and Suzanne Clément for Laurence Anyways and Anton Adasinsky for Faust. The latter two films illustrate the virtue of persistence, as two of a record nine holdovers from last year’s Unreleased Films list which were finally screened in the USA, and earned ICS nominations. Definitely worth the wait!
Winners of the 11th ICS Awards will be announced on February 23, 2014.
